Greens to table bill to stop bottled water exports

Green Party of PEI Leader Peter Bevan-Baker intends to table a Private Member’s Bill this fall that will outlaw the export of bottled water from the province.

“Minister Mitchell has said he will not put a hold on new water export developments, despite the fact that Government is currently working on a new Water Act that he says will cover bottled water,” said Bevan-Baker. “The Pure Island Waters project is up for approval now but we have no way to control or even properly monitor a bottled water industry. We need to put in some rules if we decide to go ahead with this.”

Bevan-Baker has called for a moratorium on bottled water developments until after the Water Act is passed. The Private Member’s Bill is intended to be temporary, and could be repealed when the new Water Act is passed.

Totally agree with you Peter Bevan Baker on the bottled water issue. As I have said before we have struggled and still trying to keep clean water on our tables and in our homes. Why in the name of sanity would any government, issue permission for our precious water to be sold out of province.?
When you have your water tested on PEI, you get nothing less than a 1 rating but they ask you to retest in a month and then in 2 or 3 months to be sure. Sure they get our money and that is all this is about, bottling water for someones gain. Put the money back into the Government where it can be used to keep our water clean, not sell it.

AMEN and THANK YOU. NOW everybody get out and vote for either of the proportional selections in the upcoming vote of the ‘haves against the have nots’. They just want to confuse you with multiple selections. So let’s have the ‘have nots’ outnumber the ‘haves’ by a large margin that we may begin the process putting some of the power back into the hands of Islanders.

Thank you for your sanity and your efforts. Many wars in the last fifty years have been fought over oil. I worry greatly about water wars in my grandchildren’s time.

Our water is not a commodity that can be bought and sold. How will we live if we can’t control our own water? How will farmers raise animals and crops with no water? Vote vote vote in the plebiscite for fairness to Islanders
